Crash: Air India Express B738 at Mangalore on May 22nd 2010, overran runway at landing

An Air India Express Boeing 737-800, registration VT-AXV performing flight IX-812 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Mangalore (India) with 167 passengers and 6 crew, overran the runway while landing on Mangalore’s runway 06 in dense fog at 06:10L (00:40Z), went through an airport fence, attempted to go-around but crashed into a wooded valley about 10km northeast of the airport.

Authorities reported 8 survivors have been taken to local hospitals, but more than 160 people were ed in the accident. Police confirmed more than 40 bodies have been recovered already.

Mangalore’s runway 06/24 is 2900 meters (9500 feet) long and entered operations in 2006.
